Where Vegan’s Eat After Disneyland

053113maaf-healthyjunk11

I’m just gonna say it – I don’t want to go to Disneyland. As a California native, I’ve been there, done that. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go. If you’ve never been, especially if you have kiddos, then get your butt over there. You’ll have a blast! Just please don’t invite me.

If you really want to meet me on your SoCal trip, then let’s go out after you go to Disneyland. We can meet at Healthy Junk, an awesome vegan restaurant in Anaheim.

My husband and I discovered this place last week and I can’t wait to go again. The atmosphere is casual with lots of outdoor seating and their fare is comfort food favorites like burgers, tex-mex, pizzas, salads and goodies. My husband and I both ordered their Portobello burger that came with a grilled Portobello mushroom and an additional marinated patty. It was delicious! Maybe I’m being premature with my love for this place since I’ve only had this one item but I’ve got a hunch everything there is amazeballs (hehe – I just learned this term, which means that it’s probably not “in” anymore).

And no worries if you want to meet me late because then we can hang out at Junk Bar, a vegan bar connected to Healthy Junk. I didn’t even realize a vegan bar existed – I need an excuse to go there (hint, hint).

I was so in love with this restaurant that I asked the cashier if it was a chain. I learned that the Anaheim store is the first, but that they’ll be opening another store in Laguna Beach soon. I gasped when I heard this! I live in Laguna Beach and my only complaint about this town is its lack of vegan restaurants. I’m SO excited! It will be nice not to have to drive half an hour to get to a vegan restaurant anymore.

Two Last Notes…

This restaurant has gluten-free items and instead of bottled water they serve boxed water which is SO much better for the environment.

I didn’t take these photos and I’m gonna give the lame excuse that it’s because I didn’t have my camera with me (bad blogger!). I found some great photos Online, however; and I want to give credit to the awesome photographers.

  3. Ani says:

Wow that looks amazing! That Mighty Kale salad has my name all over it haha

  4. Ralph says:

    Can I come ?? 😉 xox

    • Absolutely! You just have to get your butt over to California, that’s all!!! 🙂

    • Oh I think I can handle you Ralph, I’m just wondering if you can handle this wacky vegan chica! I just might make you eat nothing but kale – hehe. I know you told me, but where you’re staying has slipped my mind. What city will you be in?

      • Ralph says:

OMG !! OMG !! (You can read that in 3D)

        Kale ???

I expect to be in Tulare County, south’ish of Fresno. That’s where I’ll be hiding from the wacky vegan chica 😉 😆

    • Oh boy – am I giving kale a bad name here? I actually LOVE kale. I used to hate the stuff, but that’s because I didn’t know how to fix it. Now I know how to make a mean avocado and kale salad. OMG – yum!!!

Would love to meet you at Healthy Junk next time we’re in town!! I’ve been to Disneyland and Disney World, that’s enough. 🙂

    Have a great weekend!!
    ♥ carmen

    • I’m with you Carmen – once you’ve been to Disneyland a couple of times that’s enough. Especially with the prices they’re charging these days!! Please do let me know if you come this way Carmen. I’d love to meet you and your hubby too!! Celeste 🙂

  6. This place sounds delicious!!!!!!
I wish we have more vegan restaurants in our area!!!!

    • I really think, or at least I hope, that we’ll be seeing a lot more vegan restaurants in the next few years. It seems to be a trend that’s catching on. All of the vegan restaurants near where I live do great business and many of them are opening additional locations. I really hope you get more near you soon. It’s nice to have options for eating out. Celeste 🙂

I am soooo in the wrong state. LOL

  8. diahannreyes says:

If only this delish place was enough to get my guy to Disneyland… but perhaps we’ll drop in when we are in the area. Thanks, as always, for the great recommendation, Celeste!

  9. stacilys says:

Hahahaha, I love your little (not so) suttle hints. That is great you found this place. You think there are any chances they would open one up in my north east Brazilian city? Ok, just wishful thinking on my part.
    Blessing Celeste =)

    • Who knows – dreams sometimes do come true!! Of course, in your situation, you might have to wait a little while. Thanks so much for checking in chica – I love hearing from you!! Celeste 🙂

  10. The Vegan 8 says:

Oh gosh I’m so jealous of that restaurant! It sounds so fabulous. I live in Houston, which is a huge city and they basically have very few choices for vegan food and those are 45 minutes away. The one restaurant I went too was terrible and I was still starving when I left because it was so little of food. I just make all my own food and that way I’m satisfied… But it would be nice for once to have a good vegan meal that is healthy, as well, from a restaurant !

    • I feel for you girl!!! I cook most of our meals too, but it is nice to take a break once in a while. We still have to drive a distance to get to most vegan restaurants too, but at least we get a good meal when we do. I will say that since we moved here two and a half years ago, 3 vegan restaurants opened within a half an hour of us. That would be unheard of ten or even five years ago. I think the tide is changing. I’m not sure how long it will take for this trend to hit Houston, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’s soon! Celeste 🙂

  11. Sounds amazing! I wish we had a place like this nearby. We’re in a small village in the middle of England… not spoilt for choice around here, but I found a restaurant serving the most wonderful vegan Mexican food an hour’s drive from here.

    • I love vegan Mexican food. If I ever get to England, which I may since my husband used to live there and wants to show it to me, I’ll meet you at that restaurant. And if you ever get to California, you can meet me at Gracias Madre an amazing vegan Mexican restaurant in San Francisco. I heard they just opened a second restaurant in Hollywood, so if your in SoCal we can meet there. Thanks for stopping by chica! Celeste 🙂

  12. This sounds so great, and I love the idea of the vegan bar! I didn’t know they existed either!

    • I know – can you believe it! Since going vegan my husband and I have also discovered two vegan coffee shops. This vegan thing is catching on!!! Thanks for your comment chica! Celeste 🙂

  13. This sounds so wonderful! How cool! 🙂

    • Thanks so much for all your support!! If you ever get out to California, I want to take you on a tour of vegan restaurants. I know you’re not vegan (no judgment), but I know you’ll love the food anyway! Just let me know when you’re coming. Celeste 🙂

  14. Looks and sounds great….they need to expand their restaurant location to include….Australia!

  15. Finding new vegan and even vegetarian places seems always like an award to me. Especially where I live, cause there aren’t many of them. Long live the tasty, vegan food! 🙂

  16. reocochran says:

Both of these choices sound like fun and delicious places to go! Love that label, “The Junk Bar!” I could easily enjoy that place, and feel guilt-free! Smiles, Robin

  17. I’m done with Disney too! I’d LOVE to meet you at “The Junk Bar” much better!!

  18. Sophie33 says:

I also want to meet you there, sweety! 🙂 Good for you! xxx

  19. Vegan restaurants. I’m so laughing. I just wish.

Anyway, that top photo had me salivating, exactly the sandwich I would love. With which I am of to dish up my baked beans on toast (a Brit thing apparently).

  20. Carmen says:

Wowowow! That is so funny, Celeste! My husband and I visited Healthy Junk for the first time last Tuesday the 14th after trying to visit it two days earlier on Sunday evening and finding it closed. (They close early on Sundays.) Maybe we were there when you were!!! I too was totally delighted and so excited to find such a treasure! I can’t wait for the Laguna location! (FYI Have you been to Vegan Pizza on Chapman and West in Anaheim? They have much more than pizza. Another vegan treasure!)

    • That would have been funny if we were there at the same time, but no such luck (we were there on Saturday). I’ve never been to Vegan Pizza on Chapman, but thanks so much for the tip. Pizza is one of our favorite foods, and non-vegan pizza places rarely do justice to a cheese-less pie, so we’ll check this place out for sure!!! Celeste 🙂

  21. Wow this place looks great =) Wish there was at least one vegan restaurant near where I live =/

  22. sf says:

I’ve never been to Disneyland yet, but I’ll try to remember to go to this restaurant if I ever do. They sure thought of a great restaurant name!
