Dairy Free Yogurts

I recently wrote the post, Can Probiotics Make You Happy, about research that shows that probiotics have been shown to reduce anxiety. This got me interested in the other bennies of probiotics (which are many!). Anyway, I’ve been trying to find a good way to include probiotics in my diet but have been dissatisfied with the unhealthful ingredients added to commercial probiotic products. That’s why I’m so excited by this post! I’m gonna start making my own coconut and cashew yogurts!!!

I’m glad you’ve discovered nondairy yogurt! We’ve been making our own yogurt in a crockpot for over a year now! Originally we used Wholesoy Yogurt as a starter, but they are temporarily out of production so you can use a coconut milk yogurt and your own favorite brand of soymilk. Amazingly it does not taste sweet, but tangy like a good Greek or Indian yogurt. Of course, after your first batch you can use your own yogurt as a starter from then on …. http://vegcharlottenc.com/2012/10/14/eureka-homemade-vegan-yogurt/

    • Hey Catherine! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment!! I just checked out your yogurt post and had to reblog it. You’ve really done the trial and error to see what works with making vegan yogurt. I’m so excited to try your recipe. I doubt that I’ll get to it until after Thanksgiving, however. Life is really crazy right now. Thanks again! šŸ™‚

  2. This sounds like a miracle yogurt.
