My husband and I follow Rip Esselstyn’s Plant Strong diet as outlined in The Engine 2 Diet. This is a plant-based diet that consists of fruits, veggies, grains, beans, nuts and seeds. Meat, dairy, sugar and extracted oils are excluded.
When I first went on this diet I thought it was going to be dull as hell, but it’s not. Once I learned how to cook this way I found it surprisingly tasty. My husband and I love eating plant strong now and don’t plan to go back to how we ate before.
Still, we occasionally cheat on sugar and oil. I don’t think this is a big deal. As long as we’re mostly following the diet we’ll still reap the bennies. This weekend, however; we went overboard!
It started Saturday when I made a vegan version of Fae’s Blueberry Cake. By Sunday afternoon my husband and I had devoured the entire thing! And just after my last bite of cake I made Eat, Pray, Bake’s Wonder Bon Bon’s.
I ate more than my share of bon bon’s tonight and now it’s late and instead of snoozing I’m on a sugar high and writing this post! Especially since I have past food issues and weight problems, I’d say that’s a wake up call. I need to curtail my cheating for a while.
I must tell you, however; that the Wonder Bon Bon’s were amazing! They were like bite-sized gourmet chocolate covered bananas. Not only this, but they’re moderately healthy and super quick and easy to make. Here’s the recipe.

These look and sound amazing! They are on my to try list for sure!
When you try them, let me know how they turn out for you! Celeste 🙂
Wonderful, I will have to try, thank you, Celeste!
These are sooooo good Stacey!! Please do try them! Celeste 🙂
Mmmmm Bon Bons 🙂 They look delicious Celeste! The Engine 2 Diet is one I still need to read!
The Engine 2 Diet is the first plant-based diet book I read, and it blew my mind! I also like Rip’s latest book, My Beef With Meat. Of course if you don’t have time to read much, and who does these days, you can just watch Forks Over Knives. It goes over a lot of the research. Thanks for your comment! Celeste 🙂
Waw…. These tasty treats are easy to make & look just amazing! I must make them really soon!! Thnaks for sharing with us all! 😊
I just finished two and a half of them Sophie and OMG – I’m not going to make them again until I have company. I’m just having too much trouble resisting these suckers!! I always appreciate your comments Sophie – you’re the best girlfriend! Celeste 🙂
You too,…😀
Oh boy, I have those periods where I’m not so “good.” I try not to beat myself up too much about those occasions. The thing is, you realize it’s happening and you make adjustments. I don’t yet have Rip’s books on my shelves…
Hey Annie! I don’t know that you need to read The Engine 2 Diet – you probably already know all the info presented in the book anyway. It was the first book I read when I was making my plant-based transition, and it’s great for “newbies.” If you’re going to get one of Rip’s books, I’d recommend his latest, “My Beef with Meat,” because it has much of the same material and a lot more recipes. Celeste 🙂
Those “Bon Bons” look so delicious, I’ll have to give them a try.
You really must try these mom – they are a cinch to make and so yummy!! Celeste 🙂
Are you for real!? These look unreal!!
I know! They’re so good!!
That look so yummy, those would be gone in record time in my house!
They were certainly gone in record time in my house!!
These look to die for! I haven’t made PB cups in too long, but next time I get the urge I’ll have to make these fancy bon bons instead! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Oh great! I know you’ll love these!! Celeste 🙂
These look so adorable!!!
These look very tasty!
I’m glad you liked the bonbons 🙂 I often eat more than my fair share too so I try to keep them away in the freezer. I’m always looking for a new vegan cake recipe, I want to give Fae’s blueberry cake a try when I am back home from France!
Like them? Oh my gosh, I loved them!! I couldn’t believe how easy they were to make and they tasted so good. Your photo is great too!! I’m so jealous that you got to spend so much time in France – I’ve never been. Maybe one day. Celeste 🙂
