I was walking in Monarch Bay shopping center last week and noticed a sign in the window of Paradise Nails that advertised vegan manicures. What? Nail polish isn’t vegan?
This was news to me, but I wasn’t surprised. Since starting my vegan transition I’ve learned that many products I would have thought were vegan are either tested on animals or contain animal derivatives.
Since spring has sprung and it’s time to start showing off toe cleavage, I decided to investigate cruelty-free nail polish. Here’s what I discovered.
What makes nail polish not vegan?
- Many nail polish manufacturers test on animals.
- Most pearl, shimmery and metallic shades contain fish scales to achieve that effect.
Where can I get vegan nail polish?
I found a great list of brands at the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blog, Logical Harmony. I was glad to see that Orly, my favorite brand, is on the list.
After finishing my research, I did something that I’ve never done before – I went to Paradise Nails for a pedicure. And let me tell you, I’ve been missing out! It was an hour and a half of bliss and my big feet almost looked pretty when I left.
I appreciate anyone who takes the time to say hello! I love receiving your comments and questions, so please contact me. Email: celestedimilla(at)yahoo(dot)com (pardon this funky spelling…it helps prevent spam).
